Staying at static caravan parks in the Yorkshire Dales means getting to enjoy great local activities all year round.
However, after two years of uncertainty due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this summer is set to be one of the best yet for the amazing range of activities and events taking place!
Read on to find out about the ones you really won’t want to miss…
Here are six fantastic events you won’t want to miss this summer in the Yorkshire Dales:
1. Sketching in Nature – 4th June
Pick up your sketchbook and pencils for a trip to the stunning Aysgarth Falls, where you’ll get to soak up the sights of one of the Yorkshire Dale’s most beautiful spots and learn a whole host of drawing techniques to replicate it on paper!
2. Muddy Boots Social Walk – Summer Evening in the Hills – 21st June
Make the most of the longest day of the year by joining the five-and-a-half mile hike up Buckden Pike.
The walk ascends at the waterfall-filled Buckden Gill, and you’ll reach the summit in time to enjoy the late evening light over the surrounding hills before making your way back down Buckden Rakes as the sun sets. And this is just the beginning of the outdoor activity opportunities that the Dales can offer!
3. Pride in the Park 2022 – 2nd July
Celebrate LGBT+ equality at Aireville Park in Skipton this summer! With live music, trader stalls, comedy performances and more, it’s set to be a truly fantastic and memorable day.
4. Leyburn 1940’s Weekend – 22nd-24th July
After a long break, Leyburn 1940’s Weekend is back and raring to go! We have a dedicated blog about the event that you can read here, but in short, you’ll find yourself swept up by into a world of all things 1940s as soon as you step beyond the ticket stall – from classic cars to vintage clothes, food and drink and more!
Akebar is one of the closest static caravan parks in the Yorkshire Dales to the event, so if you’d like to go, you’ll be in easy reach.
If you want to get more from the classic vehicles on show, you can extend the weekend by attending the Ripon Classic Car Gathering on Sunday 24th July.
5. Yorkshire Dales Food & Drink Festival – 23rd-24th July
If you fancy yourself a bit of a foodie, then you really won’t want to miss this year’s food and drink festival!
Located at Funkirk Farm in Skipton (approximately an hour’s drive from Akebar Park), the event promises celebrity guests (such as The Hairy Bikers), a funfair, and – of course – an incredible variety of food and drink for you to try!
Be sure to keep an eye out for Wensleydale Creamery’s stand while you’re there, but if you miss them, they’re just around the corner from Akebar Park, ready to welcome you with open arms and a platter of cheese samples.
6. A Midsummer Night’s Dream – 6th August
One for the thespians among those staying at static caravan parks in the Yorkshire Dales this summer! Come along to Bolton Abbey to enjoy Shakespeare’s timeless comic masterpiece in the beautiful outdoor setting of one of the Yorkshire Dales’ most beautiful buildings.
If theatre’s not your thing but you’d still like to visit, the Abbey also has a range of other events taking place throughout the summer, such as a performance by Leeds Philharmonic Chorus on 25th June.
Akebar Park is also one of the nearest static caravan parks in the Yorkshire Dales to Bolton Castle, which is just as fantastic an attraction for summer days out!
7. Hands-on History – Archaeological Finds – 12th August
It’s one thing to read about the history of the Yorkshire Dales, but it’s quite another to get hands-on with it! This event at Dales Countryside Museum in Hawes will give you and members of your family the chance to look at archaeological finds and discover what they tell us about our past.
There are so many more amazing events we’d love to share in this blog…
… but by the time we’ve written about them all, the summer will be long gone!
Instead, we’d highly recommend getting in touch with us before your visit. As the owners of one of the top static caravan parks in the Yorkshire Dales, we can recommend a wealth of other summer activities and events for you to try.
Stay with us this summer (and all the summers after that) with your very own holiday home.
If you aren’t currently a static caravan or lodge owner at Akebar Park, we’d be delighted to show you around our park and holiday homes! Get in touch today to book your viewing.
